Museums and
art galleries
Lok Virsa Museum, Shakarparian Park (next to H7 and G8) USD 5 for
foreigners. Recently renovated, a delight. Definitely worth a visit.
Islamabad's first museum, which brings together more than 25 large galleries
spread over four blocks and linked together by passages illustrating cultural
ties with Iran, Central Asia and China. There are large rooms devoted to
architecture, musical heritage, textiles, romances, Sufi shrines and several

It features an extensive collection of
embroidered costumes, jewelry, woodwork, locksmiths, block engravings, ivory
and bone. The Heritage Heritage Reference Library has a large collection of
data on art, music, history and crafts from all parts of Pakistan. Books on

Golra Pakistan Railway Heritage Museum, Golra Sharif Station (West
of F11 - (look on Google Maps). 8 am-4pm
. A little-known gem worth stepping back in time to the glory of the
North West Railway. The station building has been renovated and houses a small
museum. Several old locomotives and rolling stock are to be explored. Made a
nice bike ride from Islamabad. Rs 5.
Pakistan Natural History
Museum, this is more of a school
excursion place than a tourist destination - an impressive blue whale skeleton
was recently built outside
National Art Gallery (F5 / 1)
Opened in 2007, the gallery is a modern building, bathed in light and
air-conditioned, which would not be out of place in many European cities. An
entertaining collection of nearly 450 works of art, purchased or donated by
artists for the National Art Gallery. Covers a surprising diversity of
contemporary and classical paintings, sculptures and other installations. The
gallery also houses an indoor and outdoor theater (word of mouth and local
press for schedules). Open 7 days a week - 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (free) and 2 p.m.
to 7 p.m. (500 rupees) - so it's empty in the afternoon and you might be
surprised by the gallery staff turning the lights on and off. lights for you!
Located in F5 / 1, at the corner of Jinnah and Constitution avenues, opposite
the Parliament building.
Private art galleries are at the
center of Islamabad's art scene, with new exhibitions opening almost weekly.
The three main galleries are:

Parks, viewpoints and green
spaces
Daman-e-Koh, a lookout point in the hills above E-6 with
great city views on a clear day / night. Its beauty is enhanced by the greenery
and flowers of different sites. High quality restaurants, great food, live
music, hiking trails, and green hills make it a favorite spot for local and
foreign tourists.
Shakarparian is
a beautiful wild and hilly region for a pleasant night walk in a green and
natural atmosphere. Is located south of G6 and G7.
Japanese Park, is a children's park located near the
Islamabad Zoo. It is popular among children, families, and visitors to Islam
from other cities because of its park and children's swings.
Lake Rawal was recently upgraded by the Capital Development
Authority. On the north side is Lake View Park (access from the road to Murree)
- a beautifully landscaped park with gardens, picnic areas, secluded trails and
lake views. It now houses an aviary, a go-kart track and a climbing wall. The
terraced garden and the lake are used for fishing and boating. On the south
side of the lake is another small park with a gazebo, a Red Onion restaurant,
and an old Hindu temple. The highest point of the garden offers a panoramic
view of Islamabad. Private clubs organize boating, sailing, water skating and
diving activities. West of the lake is the Islamabad club, which offers various
sports facilities.
Fatima Jinnah Park; also known as the F-9 park, it is considered
one of the largest in Southeast Asia. The F9 Park is ideal for jogging. It also
has a cricket pitch and a tennis court (less nets). The park also has a large
children's play area, interesting sculptures and an indoor facility with a nice
bowling alley.
Pir Sohawa. An Islamabad viewpoint located in the
Margalla Hills above the city. There are now two restaurants in Pir Sohawa and
both are worth a visit. Starting from trail 3, starting from F-6/3, you will
get to the top of the hill in about 2 hours with a perfect appetite, but you
can reach Pir Sohawa in a 35-40 minute drive.
The Rose & Jasmine Garden is located near the Islamabad
Sports Complex and the Jinnah Stadium. South of the Shahrah-e-Kashmir highway
and east of the Islamabad highway. Not too far from Rawal Lake.
Margalla Hills. Take a nature walk on the hills of Islamabad.
Mosques, shrines and monuments
Faisal Masjid, Islamabad's most recognizable monument, is a
very large mosque donated by King Faisal of Saudi Arabia. Gorgeous day or night,
definitely worth the short cab ride. Dress and act with respect, this is much
more of a serious place of worship than a tourist site. Is open to non-Muslims
outside of prayer times, but is sometimes completely closed.
National monument near Shakarparian, represents the four
provinces and three territories of Pakistan. From the air, the monument looks
like a star (in the center) and a crescent moon (formed by walls forming the
petals). These represent the star and the crescent on the flag of Pakistan. Also
a small museum and a nice view of the city.
Imam Bari Shrine Historic shrine
of a Sufi saint located in the Nur Pur Purhan valley near the G5.
Golra Sharif Shrine of Pir Mehr Ali Shah (rahmatullahi alayh), a
Sufi saint located in a village of Golra (Islamic religious site). In the
shrine of the shrine is the blessed tomb of Hazrat Pir Meher Ali Shah Sahib
Golravi Rahmatullahi alayh, of his son Hazrat Babu Jee Peer Sayyid Ghulam
Muhyuddin Shah Sahib Golravi, of his grandson Hazrat Baray Lala Jee Peer Sayyid
Ghulam Muin Bouddh, a soul -grandson, Hazrat Naseer and Millat peers Sayyid
Ghulam Naseeruddin Naseer Shah Sahib rahmatullahi alayh
Other
Islamabad Zoo is located at the foot of the Daman-e-Koh
viewpoint. It has more than 300 animals, including 200 birds of different
species, as well as tigers, lions and other animals.
The Blue Zone, Islamabad's financial center, is the main
thoroughfare leading to the main government buildings on Constitution Avenue.
Saidpur village was a sleepy little village at the foot of the
Margallas Hills, with a mystical past and breathtaking natural beauty. It has
now been renovated. The village has now become popular with the citizens of
Islamabad, who want an occasional break from the frenzy of city life. Surrounded
by lush and tranquil wilderness, this century-old village is furnished with
rustic facilities and offers amenities such as a wide range of local food
outlets and restaurants. Exhibitions are regularly held to illustrate the
traditional arts, crafts and rich cultural heritage of Pakistan.
Watch an open-air theater or
relax by Lotus Lake. Check if there is something going on. The times depend
entirely on the calendar and the weather.
Chattar Bagh is a small park located in the hills, about 25
