Monument Valley

Wine tours Portland wants to teach the peoples. Monument Valley is one of the national symbols of the United States - a truly unique geological formation, worthy of being included in the list of wonders of the world. Here is a section of the border between the states of Utah and Arizona, and the territory of the national park belongs to the reservation of the Navajo Indian tribe. The amazingly beautiful landscapes of the valley have inspired many directors more than once, and are familiar to everyone from the frames of famous films.

Millions of years ago, in the place where the desert now stretches, the Mesozoic sea splashed. Sandstone layers were deposited at the bottom and gradually, due to the uplift of the earth's crust, the sea receded, and a vast plateau formed in its place. Over the millennia, rains, winds and frosts have cultivated the rocks, and the result has been majestic yet whimsical towers and columns.

Almost until the end of the 19th century, this amazing corner of nature was accessible only to the eyes of representatives of the warlike Navajo tribe, but after the end of the wars with the Indians, a rather active visit to this wonderful corner of the Earth began. Nowadays, you can explore the beauty of the Monument Valley right from your car window.

But still, in order to experience a really strong feeling, it is worth climbing one of the rocky outcrops. The landscape that opens up to the traveler will shake to the depths of the soul with its unearthly beauty.

Bryce canyon

Bryce Canyon National Park is located in northeastern Utah. It is one of the largest and most beautiful natural monuments in the United States. However, in reality, this is not a canyon at all, but a huge natural amphitheater of sharp rocky peaks, painted in various shades, ranging from pink to orange. Bryce, unlike its neighbors (Grand Canyon and Zion), is not wildly popular. This is mainly due to the relative remoteness of the park. But usually a visit to all three of these parks is combined in one trip.

The name Bryce Canyon was given in honor of a Mormon settler, Ebenezer Bryce, who settled in 1875 on the upper edge of the canyon. However, after the canyon was granted National Park status in 1924, it was named Utah National Park. But at the beginning of the twentieth century, it was decided to pay tribute to the first settlers of the Wild West, and the Park was renamed.

Bryce Canyon Park is 56 square miles (or 145 sq km). The height of its edges ranges from 2400 to 2700 meters. It is best to visit it at sunrise or sunset, when the sun's rays highlight the bizarre natural forms.

Zion canyon

Zion National Park is located in Utah, near the city of Springdale. The total area of the park is 593 sq. km. The central attraction of the Park is the 24-kilometer Zion canyon, from which the name of the park comes. The depth of the canyon reaches 800 meters. It was formed as a result of undermining by the waters of the Virginia River in sandstones of reddish and bronze shades.

The canyon was discovered in the 1860s by the Mormons who named it after Mount Zion, but it was not studied more or less in detail until 1872. The territory around the canyon received the status of a national park in 1919. The National Park has an amazing collection of unusual rock formations from the Navajo sandstone - the main local rock. These are striking high cliffs, gloomy boulders and deep abysses of the park, painted in different colors - from bright red to pale pink.

Above the road rises Checkerboard-Mesa - a grandiose block of sandstone, the surface of which seems to be broken into squares by wind and water. The highest point of the park is West Temple Mountain, which rises above the bottom of the canyon at an altitude of 1158 meters. Another famous attraction is the so-called Weeping Rock, on the slopes of which water flows from a spring.

Arches National Park

Arches National Park is famous for its amazing natural arches in a variety of sizes and colors. In total, there are more than 2000 of them on the territory of the park. When you see the panorama of the sky and the surrounding hills, which is visible through the arches, there is a fascinating feeling of an amazing alien landscape, as if the Almighty himself created here, in a natural workshop.

The total area of the park is 309 sq. km; the highest point is located at an altitude of 1,723 m, the lowest - 1,245. These unusual natural formations appeared almost 150 million years ago as a result of complex geological processes and keep the memory of the ancient inhabitants of these places in the form of rock paintings and petro glyphs.

As for the entertainment in the park, climbing the arches is prohibited by the rules of the park, since they are destroyed by erosion and climbing can be quite dangerous. But even without climbing, tourists are presented with various types of outdoor activities - hiking and car routes, cycling, ranger programs. Astronomical observations are very popular.
